Monday Mourning (pages 155-189)

Dr. Jonathon Lancaster, the entemologist (also described as "the bug and slime guy") in the lab (Dr. Jack Stanley Hodgins IV in "Bones") uses the firls teeth to discover where the girls were living at the time. He used the sealent on their teeth to find decay patterns. It is described that the decay in the teeth shows where a person was born. Also he looks at bone fragments which show where the victims were living in the past two years. Dr. Lancaster uses the Carbon-14 half-life to find that the younger girls (38426 and 38427) were born in Quebec as shown by the sealent.

The difference came when Dr. Lancaster examined victim 38428. The Sr isotope composition of her dental sample suggested a childhood diet with an average Sr value of plus fifty to plus sixty. This meant that she was not born in the same region as the other two. With the help of a previous case, he determined that she was born in California. The bones of 38428 were also different from 38426 and 38427. It determined that she moved around a lot and has been living in Quebec for the past year and half. With this information, Detective Ryan was able to trim the suspect pool and eliminate suspects Pitts and Hannigan.

Response: This was hilarious and awesome in my mind. it just proves that when creating the show, Hart Hanson depicted Dr. Lancaster's image perfectly. That was an insane experiment, but I know that it's completely legit. Kathy Reichs, being a forensic anthropologist, makes the crime novels so much more enjoyable!!
